The students now have a "Share" in what's happening.

When you logon to the computers, you will see that under "My Computer", there is a StudentData drive which has been shared for you. This shared drive will house all the "Stuff" that your teachers make available to you, such as Videos, Documents, Notes, Past papers etc.

Please feel free to browse this and use the information in that folder.

Wireless coming to SAHETI

In the next few days we will commence testing our wireless infrastructure at the school!

This will pave the way for the use of wireless devices at SAHETI for the purpose of education. Many schools have been using mobile technology for years now, and it's long overdue that SAHETI investigated this too. Recently, we held an information session at the school where Mrs Daniela Pitt, the Academic director at the school, outlined SAHETI's plans to use devices such as iPads and Kindles at the school. About 30 eager parents welcomed this move and even suggested that we do this sooner than next year!

Mrs Pitt stressed that pupils were welcome to bring their own laptops, iPads and other devices to school to use in the classroom for educational purposes. She said that it was really useful having students who were creating challenging discussions by "Googling" the topic under discussion and thereby contributing to the dialogue in a meaningful way.

Mr Wayne Strydom, the ICT Manager at SAHETI, said that although there were other devices such as the Galaxy tablet and the Blackberry Playbook out there, nothing comes close to the iPad for educational applications. He said he was excited at the possibilities that the devices would be bringing to the educational arena.

The wireless network will be monitored and safeguarded by the SAHETI server infrastructure and IT department.

He finally ended in 4th place in his section. The first 3 are selected for the national team to play in the World Youth Chess Championships to be held in Brazil later this year. If any of the 3 does not meet the further criteria required of them, then Victor will be invited to the national team.
Since then Victor has played in a number of other tournaments. In May  he participated in the Gauteng West Provincial trials and won his age group comfortably.
Victor will be participating in the Commonwealth /SA Open Chess Championships which will be held at Emperor’s Palace from Friday, 24 June –Sunday 3 July 2011.
